Electrician in Hillsboro, Oregon

Washington County

Two Building Eras, One Hillsboro Address

ATR Electric is a licensed electrical contractor covering Hillsboro, a city with a Main Street older than the state's electrical code and a Blue Line suburb built almost entirely between 1996 and 2003. A Queen Anne off Main and an alley loaded townhome in Orenco Station are the same drive and nothing like the same job. Anthony Riddick walks each one and prices it himself.

Downtown Stock

  • Cloth wiring behind plaster
  • Circuits extended over decades
  • Fixture work in old ceilings

Orenco and Out

  • New construction rough in
  • ADU services and subpanels
  • Charger circuits in garages

An alley loaded townhome is its own puzzle. The garage is detached and off the lane, the walls are shared, and there is no side yard to run a feeder down, so a charger that takes an afternoon on a Tanasbourne lot takes planning in Orenco. Knowing that before the quote is the difference between a number that holds and a number that moves.

Permits & Inspection

Hillsboro Issues Its Own Trade Permits

Hillsboro issues its own trade permits and inspects them itself, for the 1890s house and the new build alike. What the house is decides how long the paperwork takes, not where you take it.

  1. 01

    What a trade permit covers

Hillsboro calls them trade permits, and electrical work needs one for new construction, any change to a service or feeder, and any alteration or extension of a branch circuit.

  2. 02

The fast lane and the slow one

Straightforward scope can be applied for online without review. New construction and ADU work goes to plan review first, which is a different timeline and worth knowing at quoting.

  3. 03

    Reedville and Rock Creek

Both are unincorporated, so Washington County issues and inspects those rather than the city. A Hillsboro postal address does not settle which counter you are at.

Why ATR Electric

One Hillsboro Contractor, Both Building Eras

An extension ladder set against the side of a house at the service riser during a service upgrade

Old Stock and New Build

A downtown rewire and an Orenco rough in are both walked and priced by the same person, against the one written scope.

Licensed in Two States

Licensed, bonded and insured in Oregon and in Washington, so exactly the same cover applies on either side of the river.

Permits Pulled for You

Some cities inspect their own electrical work and others hand it to the county. Either way the permit gets pulled first.

Priced Before It Starts

A written scope and a number, both agreed before the first screw comes out. Estimates on planned work are always free.

Anthony on Every Job

It is three electricians now, and Anthony still walks and prices every single job himself, right through to inspection.

Answers Without the Jargon

You hear what was found and why it matters while the job is open, in words that need no second electrician to decode it.

“Anthony had a better idea. The other Electrician came out and gave a bid for $14,000. I thought that was a little high and decided to get another opinion. Anthony had ideas that the other guys never even thought of.”

Common Questions

Before You Book a Hillsboro Electrician

Who issues an electrical permit in Hillsboro?

The City of Hillsboro does, from its own permit counter, and it calls them trade permits rather than electrical permits. Reedville and Rock Creek are unincorporated, so those two answer to Washington County. ATR Electric pulls whichever one covers the address.

Do you wire ADUs in Hillsboro?

Yes, and the electrical question is nearly always whether the existing service can carry a second dwelling or whether the ADU needs its own. That is a load calculation, and it is worth having before the drawings are finished rather than after.

Can you fit an EV charger in an Orenco Station townhome?

Usually, though it takes more planning than a detached house. The garage is off the alley, the walls are shared, and the feeder route is the part that decides the cost. Anthony walks the run before quoting rather than pricing it off a photograph.

Which cities does ATR Electric serve around Portland?

Every city on the map above, which covers Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties in Oregon plus Clark County in Washington. Each one has its own page with the permit rules that apply there. If your city is not marked, call and ask rather than assuming the answer is no.

Do I need a permit for electrical work in Oregon?

On any work that requires one, yes, and ATR Electric pulls it rather than leaving it to you. New circuits, service changes and panel work generally require a permit. Unpermitted electrical tends to surface later during a sale or an insurance claim, and it has to be opened back up for an inspector anyway.
