Lighting and Outdoor Wiring in Lake Oswego
ATR Electric is a licensed electrical contractor covering Lake Oswego, where a good deal of the work is what happens after dark. Oswego Lake has been privately held since 1942 and better than three thousand houses hold deeded access down to it, which is a lot of paths, steps and terraces wanting light and a lot of tubs wanting a circuit. Anthony Riddick prices each one after walking it, never before.
Out in the Yard
- Path, step and tree lighting
- Transformers sized for the run
- Timers and photocells that hold
Tubs and Pools
- Dedicated 240 volt circuits
- GFCI protection and disconnects
- Bonding grids around the water
A lakefront terrace and a Palisades garden with a deeded path down to the water are the same problem at two scales. Fixtures a long way from the panel, a transformer that has to be sized for the run, and controls somebody has to live with for ten years. Getting the load and the voltage drop right on paper is what stops a scheme going dim at the far end of the garden.

Electrical Services in Lake Oswego
Lake Oswego housing on both sides of the lake, where the question is usually lighting, an outdoor circuit, or what the panel has left to give.
Permits & Inspection
Lake Oswego Keeps Its Own Electrical Program
Almost every city in Clackamas County hands electrical review and inspection to the county. Lake Oswego is one of two that never did, and it has its own inspector to prove it.
- 01
The city does both
Lake Oswego reviews the electrical plan and inspects the finished work itself, with a city electrical inspector rather than a county one. Estacada is the only other city in the county doing both.
- 02
What the permit covers
Electrical and low voltage go on one application, which matters on a garden scheme where the lighting, the controls and the tub circuit all land on the same job.
- 03
Where it stops
Marylhurst and the unincorporated pockets on a 97034 or 97035 address are not in the city, so those go to Clackamas County like everywhere else.
Why ATR Electric
A Licensed Electrical Contractor in Lake Oswego

Lit and Left Working
A garden scheme is designed to the load and the run, so the far end of it is still as bright as the near end in five years time.
Licensed in Two States
Licensed, bonded and insured in Oregon and in Washington, so exactly the same cover applies on either side of the river.
Permits Pulled for You
Some cities inspect their own electrical work and others hand it to the county. Either way the permit gets pulled first.
Priced Before It Starts
A written scope and a number, both agreed before the first screw comes out. Estimates on planned work are always free.
Anthony on Every Job
It is three electricians now, and Anthony still walks and prices every single job himself, right through to inspection.
Answers Without the Jargon
You hear what was found and why it matters while the job is open, in words that need no second electrician to decode it.

Common Questions
Before You Book a Lake Oswego Electrician
Who issues an electrical permit in Lake Oswego?
The City of Lake Oswego does, and it inspects the work itself with its own electrical inspector. That makes it one of only two cities in Clackamas County doing both. Addresses outside the city limits, Marylhurst among them, go to the county instead.
Do I need a permit for a hot tub circuit?
Yes. A tub needs its own dedicated circuit, GFCI protection and a disconnect within sight of it, and the bonding around the water is inspected. It is not a job that should end with a cord run out of a garage outlet.
Can landscape lighting be added to an existing system?
Often, and the limit is the transformer rather than the fixtures. Adding to a run that is already at capacity is what makes the far end go dim. Anthony measures what the existing transformer has left before anything is quoted.
Which cities does ATR Electric serve around Portland?
Every city on the map above, which covers Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties in Oregon plus Clark County in Washington. Each one has its own page with the permit rules that apply there. If your city is not marked, call and ask rather than assuming the answer is no.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Oregon?
On any work that requires one, yes, and ATR Electric pulls it rather than leaving it to you. New circuits, service changes and panel work generally require a permit. Unpermitted electrical tends to surface later during a sale or an insurance claim, and it has to be opened back up for an inspector anyway.
